Kennebunk Savings officials recently donated $75,000 to the Mothers Wing Capital Campaign for the Graves Memorial Public Library.
In today’s fast-paced digital world, some libraries find they are still experiencing growth. That includes the Graves Memorial Library, a place that has seen an increase in use along with increased demand for their services. The Library’s campaign, known as the Mothers Wing Campaign, is named in honor of all mothers who have used the Library’s services over the past century to encourage children to read. The campaign will provide funding for the construction of additional space for collections and programs, the installation of an elevator for enhanced handicapped access, and an update to the Library’s aged infrastructure.
Kennebunk Savings contributed to the organization as a way to further strengthen the library’s place in the community. According to Bradford C. Paige, President and CEO, “For generations we’ve relied on libraries as places that bring us as a community together. My own children benefited from the resources and staff at Graves so I’m particularly pleased that we’re able to support the organization in a significant way that will help enhance the Library’s services for current and future generations.” Graves Memorial Public Library Executive Director Mary Lou Boucouvalas commented, “We are proud of the fact that the community still wants to gather here. This renovation will make it easier and more comfortable for people to access our collections and take in our programs. We truly appreciate the significant role Kennebunk Savings has played in helping us reach our goal.”
The Library is expecting to raise just over $1 million for the renovation project. Construction on the Mothers Wing started at the beginning of 2017 and is expected to be finished by September 2017.
Each year Kennebunk Savings contributes 10% of its earnings to the nonprofit community through its Community Promise program. In 2017, Kennebunk Savings will contribute over $720,000 to area nonprofit organizations that help create a more vibrant community. Since the program’s inception Kennebunk Savings has given a total over $10 million to nonprofit organizations.
